If you are not staying at The Islander, then you will not be at our Super Bowl Party! There will be a Chili contest at 3pm and lots of chili eating at 4pm. The Islander installed a 60″ flat screen TV in our Palm Room just for viewing this special event tomorrow. Maybe you should be here next year! January 21st, 2012Last night (1/20/12) The Islander celebrated the annual return of the Snowbirds. Happy Hour started at 5 and dinner was served buffet style at 6pm. A drawing was held and some Islander goodies were given away. Today I’ve heard lots of reports from the birds of a “real good time”.

January 6th, 2012We are so excited to welcome all our wonderful ‘Snowbirds’ back to The Islander (the nest). The weather is really great, no snow, just lot’s of sunshine and white sand! Many activities are planned, including Dominos, water aerobics, walking, Darts, Cribbage, Bridge, and Euchre. Our annual ‘welcome back’ party will be Jan. 20th and will have a surprise theme!
We are currently taking reservations for next year and hope that you will join us!

September 19th, 2011The month of October is full of things to do in Destin. The ‘Seafood Festival” starts on September 30th for the weekend. This year, admission is “free”. October 1 also kicks off the “Annual Fishing Rodeo”. Fish for prizes the entire month! Get a reduced ticket on the New Florida Girl (fishing boat) when you stay at The Islander! wow. It is also one of the most beautiful times of the year here in Destin. Not too hot, not too cold, beautiful sunsets and lots of fresh fish!! COME SEE US!
REPORT FROM THE ISLANDER, WE’RE STILL HERE!
September 8th, 2011After four days of rain, high tides, jelly fish, and a lot of wind, we are still here. The Islander did really well, our great crew cleaned up the parking lot and the water drained out like it’s supposed to. The sun is back, the sky is very blue with white puffy clouds. The beach, suffered. Mother nature will build it back in time, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll have to find another way.
Now the beaches and the weather are wonderful. The sunsets are perfectly beautiful and “no lines at the restaurants”!! The Islander rates are at an all time low! Perfect rates, perfect weather!!!
REAL ESTATE MARKET UP
August 18th, 2011The local board of Realtors reported that residential sales are up 35% in July and condo sales are up 78% over last year. Of course, last year we had a present from BP that ruined the entire summer. The news is great to hear but not really a good comparison if they are using 2010 numbers. Even 2009 was not a good year, we haven’t had a good year since before the three hurricanes in 2005. I have high hopes that 2011 and 2012 continue to get better and better. Everyone who lives here and invests here deserve it!

July 28th, 2011The Emerald Coast Poker Run, the largest poker run in the United States, is ECF’s flagship event and ECF’s primary fundraiser. The event brings together locals as well as recreational boaters from all over the country to boat across Northwest Florida’s emerald green waters.

The day begins with breakfast; mid-morning through afternoon is spent boating to our poker run stops. Each stop offers a festival event and spectators are encouraged to stop by one of the stops to enjoy the greatest spectacle in power boating in the United States. The Poker Run finale happens at the Emerald Coast Conference Center on Okaloosa Island with a large, casino-like party held in the evening.
Whether you have a boat or not, Boat Week and the Poker Run will give you an up close and personal look at boats of all types and various boating activities.
